Bandits on the rampage in Abia State have killed a soldier and injured another but lost two men in a separate attack on a mobile policeman.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the bandits numbering about 10 attacked the army officers at their duty posts at Okohia-Asa Ukwa West Local Government Area and escaped with the soldiers’ AK 47 Rifles.

The slain soldier was identified as Lance Corporal Salihu Mohammad.

Another soldier, Private Abu Ali, who was inflicted with multiple injuries, is battling for life at an undisclosed hospital.

Authorities told NewsmakersNG that efforts are on to apprehend the criminals and retrieve the rifles.

In another development, a mobile police Sergeant attached to 55 PMF Aba was attacked by two suspected hoodlums who inflicted machete cuts injuries all over his body.

The officer, who was stationed at a pin-down point along Asa Road, reportedly shot the two bandits to death in self-defence.

Bodies of the suspected bandits have reportedly been deposited at Abia State Teaching Hospital mortuary, and the officer has been rushed to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention. 

Officers at the Special Investigations Bureau (SIB) in Abia State are investigating the attack but no arrest has been made.
