Detectives investigating the disappearance of a missing palm oil dealer in Ogun have uncovered how she was killed by trusted transporters who robbed her of N400, 000.

The transporters, identified as 30-year-old Tosin Olobamoyo and Gbenga Ogungbemi, 30, were arrested by officers from Ogun State police command over the death of Mrs Evelyn Ebere, who was residing in Shagamu.

According to the state police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspects were arrested following a report to the police after the victim was found missing on March 10, 2020.

The case was transferred to the Anti-kidnapping Unit with a marching order from the Commissioner of Police (CP), Kenneth Ebrimson, to unravel the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of the woman.

In compliance with Ebrimson’s directive, the officer-in-charge of the Anti-kidnapping Unit, CSP Shobiyi Oluwatosin, swung into action with his men. They embarked on intelligence and technical based investigation that led to the arrest of Olobamoyo and Ogungbemi at different locations.

On interrogation, Ogungbemi informed detectives that he was the driver of a Toyota Carina car marked AGD 107 GU which the victim had hired to carry her to Ire-Ekiti, where she intended to buy 26 kegs of palm oil.

Ogungbemi allegedly told the police that he was accompanied by his friend Olibayomo on the journey during which they decided to rob the woman of the money she wanted to use in purchasing the palm oil.

“They drove her into the bush along Shagamu-Benin expressway where they dispossessed her of N400, 000. Since the deceased knew them very well, being her regular customers, they decided to kill her. They dumped her corpse in the bush.

The body of the victim was recovered in the bush along Shagamu-Benin expressway and deposited at the General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Meanwhile, CP Ebrimson who praised the anti-kidnapping team for their painstaking and intelligence-based investigation has ordered that the suspects be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction as soon as investigation is concluded. He warned criminals to stay clear of Ogun State as there won’t be any hidden place for them.
